Master in Mixed mode or Research

Hi there, so anyway most my blog will be either bahasa, english, a bit of german or danish [i'm learning ok].. haha

Ok, after graduate, most of us choose to work  [I didn't choose this way, because i don't think i can with people and not ready yet!], and othesr with better grade further studies in Master. But, there’s a problem here.. Most malaysian public universities offers two modes of master programme.. mixed mode or research mode..

Mixed mode

To clarify this, mixed mode is actually combination of two modes – research + coursework.. This programme, you have to sit exam to fulfill credits and after that/at the same time you have to do research.. Depending on university, you have complete it in one year minimum and maximum in two years.. So right now, i chose this programme

So why i chose this programme? I’m talking based on science stream courses [master programme] and depends on your universities/scholarships requirement..

Pros

• Fast track to pursue PhD studies
• Depends on University’s fees – much cheaper than Research mode
• Learning – advance theory
• Project/Dissertation – is almost/a bit advance compare to Final Year Project (FYP).. depends on your S/visor.. hehe.. if you’re lucky.
• Most university in Europe / USA [if not sure]..offers this kind of programme rather than research mode
• Structured Programme – based on date

Cons

• Stress!!
• Time management.. if you’re failed.. perish!
• Mentally torcher.. lab reports + assignment + Test + Exam + project!.. If you’re doing project at the same time..
• You have to sit exams.. urrgh.. i don’t like it but thank god.. i got good grades
• Risky.. especially if you pursue your study in PhD level.. they will look at your pointer/grade rather than your journal or paper..
• In Malaysia, it is sooo difficult to find scholarship especially under lecturer scheme.. most of scholarship prefer research mode..i juz don’t get it.. why, huh?

Research Mode

Pros

• It’s bit more relax than mixed mode.. it depends on your s/visor to decide how long you need to  complete dissertation
• Good hands – on which is good.. more instruments you need/have to learn
• No exam and off course no pointer at all
  
• Depends on university requirement, you have to publish at least one paper in  Journal. So it will easier for you to pass VIVA.. because you work have already well recognized.

Cons

• Expensive unless you have scholarship
• Theory.. hmm.. you’ve to learn to understand theory behind it.
• Taking time
• When you further your study, some of scholarship will look at your CGPA rather than works.. but it depends on your luck too..
